Driven by its core principle to provide advice and support to mine-affected countries and territories, the GICHD has developed a mobile data collection tool to improve the data entry process, in collaboration with mine action authorities.

Information management is an integral component to our work, to clear the mines you need to know where they are, and you need to know where to start. Gathering and mapping data allows us to target our precious demining resources, where they are needed the most and where they will make the most difference.
Ambassador Stefano Toscano,
Director of GICHD

MARS allows national authorities and implementing partners to design new forms or to import existing IMSMA forms. The forms are then easily accessible to field teams to collect data, using the MARS mobile application.  MARS accommodates advanced geographical capabilities, works in online and offline conditions, and operates with full efficiency on different mobile platforms. Once the device is connected to the Internet, the teams can send the reports to the operational projects.

With MARS and its web platform, all reports can be exported to the Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA Core) or a CSV file that you can open on your desktop computer. You can also export geographical data using any of the GIS tools available by the open source community.

What is MARS?
MARS is a comprehensive reporting system designed to support humanitarian organisations working in mine action. It assists in collecting field activity data. And manage your data collection operations.
